Discuss two ways cultural views can affect a relationship.

Any relationship that involves 2 people from different backgrounds will have problems. Here are some situations wherein cultural views can affect a relationship.

Worship:

Although it is understood earlier in the relationship that the other worships in another way, one of them may eventually feel that he or she is giving in too much to the other. Let us look at this example wherein the husband is a Muslim and the wife is a Christian. If the wife always brings her entire family over on weekends along with a particular uncle or aunt that would always try to convert the husband to their faith. It may or may not, depending on the husband's patience, irritate him. A few months of the same thing may cause some friction between the couple.

This is just one scenario, other issues exist such as religious and political problems overseas, parent's views, food, home arrangement, practices, and many other differences.

The Elderly:

Another situation is the problem of marrying into one culture which has a different set of values is the issue of caring for the elderly. If you are married to someone from a western country, then taking care of your elderly parent in your home may become a problem. Many of them are content to send their elderly to a senior's home which is unthinkable for most of us.

So, there you go, there are too many factors within an intercultural relationship that can cause problems, but this is nothing new, the right couple can work their way around most of them and have done so for centuries. Patience, understanding, compromise, concession, and love is the key to maintain such a relationship.
